The EdFest team were keen to develop an app to enhance the Edinburgh Festival Fringe experience for its visitors. The app needed to allow festival-goers to engage fully with the extensive programme across four main venues, both in the lead-up to the festival and throughout the month of August.
How we solved the problem
The app talks to different APIs to get performance information and allow users to register, login and purchase tickets, so communicating with these external teams was key to the success of this project. The 2018 version of the Edfest app includes all of the important features you'd expect from a festival app, including venue listings and information, filtering, 'Favourites' and 'My Tickets'. There are also a number of new enhancements this year, such as the 'Starting Soon' feature and 'Special Offers' feeding promotions to users.
The EdFest app has become the one-stop-shop for programme information and ticket purchase for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe's top venues, with more than 2,300 purchases made by the mid-festival point.
With inbuilt flexibility and scalability, the app can easily be updated, rebranded and improved year on year as the Edinburgh Festival Fringe itself evolves and expands.
