Voices Clinic app

The Choices app is a clinical support tool playing an important role in psychological therapy, bringing practical and personalised aids into patients lives.

We were chosen by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to design and develop a mobile app which patients could use to develop their coping strategies, build their assertiveness and practice mindfulness. The app is used by patients attending the Voices Clinic, for those distressed by hearing voices.

The finished app delivers exactly what we'd aimed for.

The project in more detail

The challenge

To build a mobile application allowing patients to continue and enhance the valuable work they do in clinical sessions at the Voices clinic. The application needed to be available to patients for download from the App Store and Google play.

How we solved the problem

We worked closely with the client research team to understand exactly what they wanted to achieve, the characteristics of the target patient group and the data that needed to be captured within the app. We then created wireframes and designs to demonstrate the workflow.

The Choices App was developed using Ionic and Angular JS development frameworks, based on Apache Cordova to build a hybrid app that can be used on both iPhones and Android phones. User accounts are managed through a secure admin interface built using Django

The outcome

The Choices App is now being used regularly by patients attending the Voices Clinic. They can now access a range of features in the palm of their hand, whenever and wherever they need them. Features include personalised coping strategies, mindfulness meditations, assertiveness aids and mood tracking with daily push notifications.

Choices for Voices - launch announcement

We have developed a number of mobile applications that support NHS patients and enhance the great work being done in a clinical setting. We are very proud to be involved in some of the real and practical innovations that are now emerging as a result of a new vision for the NHS.

Read about the Time for Time project...

From the 2015 NHS England report 'NHS Innovation Into Action';

"Our shared vision for the health service of the future, as also described by the National Information Board, is an NHS characterised by digital tools benefiting and empowering patients and clinicians alike. Innovation will play a large part in this vision being realised.

Innovative digital technologies are playing an important part in empowering patients to manage their own health at their convenience, and programmes like the Promoting Health Apps and Widening Digital Participation are helping these innovations to reach more people."

DabApps have been a pleasure to work with. They were efficient and very responsive to all of our needs, working flexibly to achieve the goals we'd set for the Choices app. We're looking forward to our clients enjoying the benefits that it offers.
